Rooftop Sculpture Garden

Renovation

Approx. 20,000 sf renovation entailing the construction of a 100’ long suspended glass and metal bridge which connected the existing Museum to the rooftop of the adjacent existing parking garage. Addition of a 4,500 sf gallery expansion to the existing 5th Floor gallery, with a 15’-tall glass “overlook” to view the rooftop garden. Construction of a new glass and metal Pavilion with solar panels on the roof, a coffee bar and catering kitchen. Seamless, sleek, custom design included: PVC stretched-fabric ceilings, aluminum metal panels and trim, custom wood fascia and benches, Indonesian Lava Stone walls.

Construction constraints included: existing concrete slabs were all Post Tension; extremely limited staging area; site was on top of occupied parking garage and kept elevators in operation while tying structural elements into the elevator framework; noise constraints due to museum occupants and neighboring high-end hotels; priceless artwork in museum and also frequent school children tour groups passing under site.
