New Building – Parking Garage

Vance Brown contracted as Design/Builder for this 1,033 stall underground parking garage with the Stanford Medical Center. The project included 4 levels of below grade parking and an extensive at-grade landscaped park and plaza, all totaling 400,000 square feet.

Because the structure was built immediately up to the public right of way, it was bounded on all four sides by busy roadways.

The entire excavation was supported with soldier beams and lagging. Over 230,000 cubic yards of soil was excavated and exported from the site.

Once the foundations were complete a 7,000 cubic yard pour was scheduled for every Thursday and not one pour was missed until the structure was topped out. Extensive efforts were taken to ensure a watertight installation of the waterproofing systems. Paraseal was used for the below grade waterproofing, and a hybrid Procor/Bituthene system was used under the landscaped podium finishes and plantings. Special lightweight aggregates and foam fill was used extensively at the podium to reduce loading on the structure.
