Renovation

Vance Brown completely renovated the renowned concert facility located in the heart of San Francisco’s Sigmund Stern Grove Park.

The work entailed the grading and compacting of the many areas of the park to enable the massive stonework to be integrated into the meadow allowing more structured seating areas for the concert goers.

Great care had to be given to the root systems of the numerous stands of trees that are an integral part of the ambience of the park while properly preparing the site for the terraced seating and walkways. A new stage, dressing rooms and public restrooms were a part of the renovation replacing the aging structures with building designs that are esthetically compatible with the outdoors atmosphere and feel of the natural amphitheater.

The new stage has a well-designed retractable cover positioned on a pair of steel space frame proscenium shaped like the surrounding trees with the branches reaching into the air.
