Stanford Football Stadium represents one of the most ambitious construction projects in Bay Area history, with Vance Brown Builders tasked with performing a complete rebuild of the iconic 84-year-old stadium in an unprecedented timeframe of just 294 days.
The challenge involved navigating a GC-led design/build process while holding responsibility for all permits and inspections with Santa Clara County, transforming the deteriorating 85,000-seat venue into a modern 50,424-seat facility.
The renovation featured a dramatic redesign that brought fans 75 feet closer to the action by removing the track and reconfiguring the stadium into a more angular, intimate venue with upgraded amenities including new press box, seating, AV/scoreboard, concessions, and significantly more restrooms. The project was funded by John Arrillaga, working closely with Vance Brown Builders, and required intensive construction with crews averaging 110-125 workers on day shifts and 50 at night to meet the aggressive timeline.
