SFMOMA's rooftop sculptural garden was constructed by Vance Brown Builders, serving as the general contractor and project manager for this distinctive open-air gallery space. The garden was designed by Jensen Architects in collaboration with Conger Moss Guillard Landscape Architecture, following a competition-winning design.

The 14,400-square-foot rooftop space sits atop an adjacent parking garage and functions as "a gallery without a ceiling," connected to the museum's fifth-floor galleries via an enclosed glass-and-steel bridge. The garden features elegant minimalist elements including lichen-covered lava stone walls that frame the San Francisco skyline and create an urban oasis for experiencing large-scale contemporary sculpture.
